we have hit our stride

lately i have found myself saying that a lot. sure, i have enjoyed every stage of drew's life, but i REALLY love the toddler stage that he is in right now. yes, he throws tantrums in the middle of the grocery store and sometimes still screams his head off in the middle of the night, but he also understands the majority of what i ask him to do and yells "daddy!" when todd comes home from work. it never gets old.

a few interesting facts about this stage before i forget to write them down:

-still loves books; will "read" them alone in his room or bring them to me when i ask. he even knows some of the words in his favorite stories and will shout them out when we get to that particular page.

-will hold my hand and walk through stores with me (most days). i have been waiting for this for a long time. i don't mind that we have to walk slowly because 1)we are usually at the store at 8:30am when everyone else is either still asleep or at work/school and 2)a slow pace just means that i get to browse every single aisle thoroughly. if you know my shopping style, you know that i'm totally okay with this.

-we discovered that alice and amos can put drew to sleep even better than we do. drew will go from shrill screams to complete silence in an instant if we just crack the door and let them walk in. they sleep on the floor next to drew's crib, and he goes right to sleep.

-gives kisses to anyone and anything and makes a sweet kissing noise. i know i will really miss that one day when he is a big boy and trying to act too cool for kisses.

-can easily identify his belly and will help you find yours too by lifting up your shirt. who cares if you're in target, chick-fil-a, church...i did not teach him this. nice work, todd.
